Dense clouds open around a bright centre. The reconstruction preserves the simple opening in the sky shown on the 1857 card.

“Der Forschende” means the seeker or inquirer. Page 79 explicitly calls this person “der Forschende oder Fragende” and makes them the subject of the sentence formed by several cards.

Commentary and difference from RWS
No direct RWS equivalent: card 1 must not be equated with a Rider–Waite–Smith card carrying the same number. Cards 1–8 form their own creation and elemental sequence in this Etteilla edition.
